A Childhood Favourite, Reinvented
When I was a kid, chocolate mousse was always the dessert I’d choose whenever we stayed at a hotel or went out for a special meal. It felt so fancy and indulgent—light, fluffy, and impossibly chocolatey. I used to think it must be incredibly hard to make, something reserved for chefs in white coats and restaurant kitchens.
Fast forward to now, and it’s still one of my all-time favourites. But instead of reaching for something pre-made or in a sachet, I make it from scratch using just two simple ingredients. It’s just as decadent as I remember—but so much more satisfying to make at home.
Why You’ll Love This Mousse
- ✅ Made from scratch – no packets or artificial ingredients
- ✅ No baking required
- ✅ Just two whole ingredients
- ✅ Quick and easy to prepare
- ✅ Rich, creamy, and full of real chocolate flavour
This mousse is perfect when you’re craving something sweet but don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen. It’s also great if you’re serving guests—because it looks fancy, but it’s secretly so easy to make!
What You’ll Need
- Chocolate – Any good-quality chocolate will do. Dark, milk, or even a mix if you like. Just choose something you enjoy eating on its own.
- Thickened cream – Look for regular pouring cream with a fat content of around 35%, not light or low-fat cream.
That’s it!
How to Make 2-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse
- Warm half of the cream
Pour half of the cream into a small saucepan and gently heat it over low to medium heat. You want it warm, not boiling—just enough to melt the chocolate. - Add the chocolate
Break the chocolate into pieces and add it to the warm cream. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Set aside and let it cool to room temperature. - Whip the remaining cream
In a separate bowl, whip the remaining half of the cream using an electric beater or hand whisk until soft peaks form. - Fold together
Gently fold the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture in batches. Take your time and use a light hand—this keeps the mousse airy and fluffy. - Chill and serve
Spoon the mousse into serving glasses or bowls and refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours, or until set. Garnish with shaved chocolate or fresh berries if you like.

Tips for the Perfect Mousse
- Let the chocolate cool slightly before folding into the cream. If it’s too hot, it may seize or deflate the cream.
- Don’t overwhip the cream—soft peaks give the mousse its light, fluffy texture.
- Make it your own by experimenting with different types of chocolate or adding a splash of vanilla or a pinch of sea salt for extra flavour.
